At Goldfish Swim School, we truly believe we have some of the best swim teachers around. Our teachers use integrity, compassion and trust to help your little guppies learn to swim – and how to be safer in and around the water.

However, the fact is, many of our teachers are high school or college students, with busy lives that can sometimes take them out of the pool for a week or two – or longer, when they move on or move away.

We know that this can be a challenging transition for young swimmers – and their parents – and we try to minimize it as best we can. However, life happens and we know that it isn’t always possible to keep our amazing teachers for years on end (although we love it when they stay!).

Teacher changes and substitutions, however, don’t have to be a cause for concern or a source of stress. In fact, they can be a GOOD thing – and even something to celebrate!

As summer rolls in to fall, we will see some teacher transitions, so here are some ways to talk about this with your little swimmers. And, as always, we are always here to help our families have a golden experience, every time. Read on:

Relationships

The teacher-student bond is important and our instructors work diligently to connect with each and every student. We love watching our swimmers progress almost as much as their parents and we enjoy teaching them to LOVE swimming and be safer in and around the water.

We know how crucial it is that your child trust and like his or her teacher, so we work hard to build those solid relationships. It might take a lesson or two to work up to that again after a teacher change – we get it. But please know, our instructors know that to ensure those extraordinary results, there has to be a foundation of a relationship – and they’ll build that trust in no time at all!

Transitions

We try as best as we can to notify parents of changes and transitions, because we know how our little swimmers come to trust and rely on our instructors each week. One of the good things about transitions is, sometimes a new instructor can bring fresh eyes and perspective to the lessons, seeing a way to help your swimmer progress or polish a new skill. It’s kind of like stepping away from a project at work or at home, and then going back to it in a few days, or asking a friend to take a glance.

Consistency

While teacher changes are inevitable (especially in August and September when school and colleges are back in session), rest assured that your little swimmer will still have consistency in each and every lesson through our curriculum and training. It’s all a part of our WOW! Customer Service and we work hard to make sure that your child has as seamless of an experience as possible, even if there is as new face in the water.

All of our instructors are trained in this and our curriculum is standard for each level, so every teacher teaches the same way. So, if your swimmer has a sub or a new teacher, rest assured that the lessons won’t change – even if the person in charge is different.
